A Bird In The Hand
A bird in the hand
is two in the bush worth
first time that I heard it
I thought “what in the earth?”
As I’ve gotten older
that phrase returned to me
again I’ve thought about it
and here’s what I see
The blessings in your hand
are worth so much more
than all the worldly riches
we’ve been taught to adore
To have the Blessed Savior
dwell here in my heart
is more than any treasure
this world could ever impart
So the bird in my hand
was His presence here on earth
which gave more to me
than a million ”birds” are worth!

Broken Ropes
Last night I had a nightmare
It gave me quite a scare
I am a little girl in it
And upon a swing I sit
Someone behind me was pushing
The air around me swooshing
With the bright blue sea
There in front of me
But then the ropes broke
And I started to choke
As the fear did rise
With my screaming cries
Then I did awake
Whatever do you make
Of such a scary dream
And all it does seem?

My Bible Lessons
As on the porch I sit
with my little kitty-kit
My Bible lessons I’m doing
while God I am pursuing
That’s what my parents say
so I do them every day
But I’d rather go play!
When I am all grown
and the truth be kown
Having done it I’ll be glad
and think it wasn’t so bad
But here and now today
don’t care what they say
‘Cause I’d rather go play!

Torn
Across these rocks I dance
with lost dreams of romance
I’m broken and forlorn
and I’m feeling very torn
Think no one will care
if I should so dare
Into the sea be thrown
and leave this life alone?
But if my life I take
will God my soul forsake?
So now I can’t decide
as I look into the tide
If suicide is a sin
what then will I win?
If to heaven I can’t go
I first would want to know!

Rain On Me
I like walking in the rain, because no one sees me crying. – Unknown
When I am sad
when I am blue
Walking in the rain’s
what I like to do
If I get wet
I don’t even care
And it doesn’t matter
if at me people stare
‘Cause this I know
they can’t see me cry
I don’t have to answer
when they ask me why
I walk in the rain
so I can cry alone
And the pain I feel
I keep to my own.

From another of Sara’s favorite quotes
Beautiful Disaster
One kiss and it was my beautiful disaster. -Unknown
Raven, oh raven
what shall I do?
What has this masquerade
now led me into?
It was one kiss
and that was all
That it had taken
for me to fall
Into my beautiful disaster
which has left me
Here talking to you
and crying in misery
Raven, oh raven
now I comprehend
That’s what happens
when you pretend!

That one is also for you, Sara.
