They Say

They say so many things
about how we live life
and what we should do
dealing with pain and strife

“If life gives you lemons
make lemonade with them”
instead of them saying how
you should handle a problem

“If life’s a bowl of cherries
why am I in the pits?”
I think might be one
that everyone actually gets

“If you step on a crack”
doesn’t really break your mother’s back
Does “you scared me to death”
ever cause a heart attack?

“Drunk as a skunk” is
truly a strange one indeed
How did “a skin flint”
come to warn of greed?

As “Monkey see monkey do”
is a follower some way
but why is that not
just what we say?

Why use so many terms
to say what you mean?
Tell it like it is
 and leave no in between

 When communication breaks down
could this not be why?
To have a good relationship
we clearly have to try!

  1. Well, Terri! I do it because I’m a colorful old coot (I have no idea what a coot is).

  5. “What you see is what you get” is not so often the case, is it? Cool poem.
