Recovery

It seemed the harder she tried
another piece inside her died

For those words as callously spoken
had left her heart so broken

That she just could not see
there is a way for recovery

Of the self-esteem she’d lost
from the time paying his cost

While trying to gain his love
doing everything she could think of

He made her feel so low
no further down could she go

What to her he had done
was all for control being won

And using her as stress relief
served only to cause more grief

As the deep, red-hot pain
with tears her face did stain

In her heart of hearts she knew
there was only one thing to do

Of self-worth she found no vestige
as she gathered all her courage

Stepping out of her safety zone
she had created for herself alone

To give life one more chance
and learn again how to dance

To it’s ever-changing sweet melody
with joy in her heart being free!

The Old Shack

They lived in an old shack
at the mountain’s base out back
for everything they did lack
brought their lunch in a paper sack

Were as poor as they could be
just as everyone could plainly see
pranks at their expense weren’t funny
to all of my brothers and me

The eldest of them a girl
and was precious as a pearl
whose golden hair she did twirl
around her finger in a banana curl

Then came a most brooding boy
whose concentration did best to employ
alone with his food to toy
seemed to be nothing he did enjoy

Their parents were some older folks
whom were also the butt of jokes
which then only the son’s ire stokes
’til he throws at them a few pokes

When you get to the nitty-gritty
coming down to school in the city
for neither of them was pretty
but especially not for Miss Kitty

After all their schooling was done
out of this town they did run
but the damage which had begun
then over the years eventually won

The son was the first to die
for no matter how hard he try
he couldn’t let sleeping dogs lie
and overdosed on a heroin high

And their daughter then was next
who felt her life had been hexed
being ever distraught and vexed
a suicide note to them did text

Leaving their elderly parents alone
who in their grief did moan
“Why was there no compassion shown
by anyone they had ever known?!”

Now with my story all done
can you think if there’s anyone
a much beloved daughter or son
you’ve harassed or bullied for fun?

Kitty’s Story – Tuesday’s Limerick

Kitty told doggie a story
of a fight she had so gory
which was such a tall tale
that from her mouth did sail
of her greatest boxing glory!

Tuesday Morning Animal Laughs

Little kitty bitty
got so darn high
on her precious catnip
thought she would die!

Seems that Dooley deer
though kitty tasted good
that he licked her clean
’cause kitty said he could!!

I do hope for heaven’s sake
there’s a dog somewhere around
to warn me there’s an earthquake
before starts shaking the ground!
