Encroaching On My Soul

There was a darkness
encroaching on my soul

A thief in the night
that into it had stole

The thickest of fog
from the banks roll

As though something wicked
creeped out a hole

And I somehow felt
that contained there within

Was the presence of every evil
permeating the world with sin

Words echoed around in it
“Against me you can’t win!”

Said with such a fierceness
hair raised from my skin

The fear that ran through me
made me feel sick inside

As I searched for a place
that maybe I could hide

And he wouldn’t find me
before the early morning tide

While there on terror’s sea
I’d hold on for the ride

So I crouched down lower
as I wanted to scream

Wishing I had a weapon
a stick, a brick, a beam

That all hope was lost
to me it did seem

Then there came a whisper
“It’s only a bad dream”

But unsure of what I heard
I thought I’d made a mistake

Then “It’s up to you
when from it you awake

But just remember one thing
the Lord will never you forsake

Nor will allow the devil
your soul from you to take!

For you have to freely
choose to give it away

So don’t you ever listen
to anything he might say

Because he will trick you
that in it he can stay

Waiting there to deceive you
by chance one other day

And then I woke up
as my heart did race

Shook my head in feeble attempt
the dream from it to erase

As a calming, peaceful presence
filled up the room and space

I realized ’twas a vision
that upon me God did grace!

Ogre Tea Party

As I sat looking outside
and watching the fir trees blowing
my imagination took a ride
all without me even knowing

As then I found myself
in a forest of fir trees
with the sweet aroma of them
floating around me on the breeze

‘Twas nothing else to do
but to start walking along
the path in front of me
while I whistled a happy song

After a little while passed
I found that I was nearing
a place of thinning trees
 opening to a tiny clearing

And I thought “What’s this?”
while beginning to rub my eyes
for what there I did see
came as such a big surprise

Yes, it was really there
in the woods ahead of me
the unbelievable wonder of
an ogre tea party

With pastries and little cups
and stuffed animals everywhere
as to them I called
“Have you any to spare?”

‘Twas not one bit afraid
when they both looked at me
as one of them jumped up
and began clapping with glee

Waving me to come over
I sat in a little chair
as they served me up
so eager and willing to share

We had the grandest party
that you could ever see
having the time of our life
those two ogres and me!

Free Write Friday; Finding Magic in YOUR Backyard

Day 4 of the 12 Days of Love Letter Writing: Dear Hannah

This is a love letter request that I think is capable of hitting us all in the chest… At one point or another, we’ve been the 16-year-old I am going to outline below. Can you just sink back into the soles of your high school shoes? Remember what it was like to walk those hallways, to feel so small, to want–more than anything–to just learn to fly. I don’t know about you, but a stack of love letters would have boosted me during those days.

Below you will find the Love Letter Request for December 8th, our fourth day of twelve. You can find this Love Letter Request and more tips and tricks on our Love Letters Blog.  Though I am technically a “retired love letter writer,” this love letter spoke to me and I will be hosting it over at HannahKaty.com. I have also called in the girl best fit for this love letter request: Kaleigh Somers, a dreamer with a heart that is so completely stitched to girls like the one below.

Meet Hannah.

Hannah is a 16-year-old whose parents recently  divorced. She’s taken the divorce hard and has recently become very depressed. Her letter requester wrote, “Hannah was picked on when she was younger and it muted her vibrant personality that she had when she was small. Now she is hesitant to let the real Hannah shine through, though she is a very artistically talented and beautiful girl. We really hope that these love letters will speak to her heart, and will be a spark for her when she feels lost and alone in the world.”…

Here is an excerpt from my letter to Hannah:

Dear Hannah,

Being a teenager is hard enough in this day and age without having to deal with divorce.  I am a 53-year-old mother of three.  My youngest will be 14 years old in February.  She, like you, is having to deal with a lot right now.  Her father and I are in a custody battle, for good reason…

As I tell her, I’ve been there and done that in almost any situation that you can think of.  As a teen, I was a rebel.  It was during the 70′s, the hippy generation, and I wanted to be just that.  I drank alcohol, smoked cigarettes and did drugs, thinking that I was cool, but it was the wrong way to go.

I think my low self-esteem made me long to be recognized.  I was made fun of in grade school and middle school by a certain group of kids and they destroyed my self-confidence.  I started trying fit to in somewhere when I got to High School and didn’t particularly care, or maybe I did but ignored it, who I was running with.  I did a lot of stupid things in my past without thought or care of the future consequences.

Had not God and my Guardian Angels been watching over me, I would not be here today…

I wrote you a poem and I hope you like it:

As I watch the iridescent bubbles
of blue, green, yellow and red

The thoughts of my worldly troubles
keep tumbling all through my head

Shimmers of orange, purple and pink
are two primary colors in fusion

And I just can’t help but think
how all this life’s an illusion

The insults, hurts and the pain
that people in the world do

Will forever in this place remain
when the next we enter into

Why be in a big hurry
and go through life in a rush?

Why should we allow a worry
all our hopes and dreams to crush?

As each bubble goes floating by
I’ll place in it a regret

And pray that it goes so high
into Jesus’ hands it will set!

For my Day 4 Love Letter to Hannah

The Cat Caper

There were two kitty cats
who climbed to the window
they just wanted to escape
but then don’t ya’ know

When they got up there
they both fell into fear
and their well layed plan
all at once became unclear

As sister said to brother
”I think that it’s too high!”
and brother had to agree
“If we jump we’re gonna die!”

So there they just stood
as sister shook her head
“Did you see that dog
down there playing dead?”

Then brother said “Oh well,
let’s watch the people go by”
while sister watched the dog
“Yeah, let’s not even try!”

The End

’cause then you must be delirious
or are you just for show?

What’s up? My name is Mr. T
and I think that you must agree
as you watch me do my dance
just let me tell you in advance
all these gold chains are killing me!

Thursday’s Animal Laughs

Israel News Briefs: Israeli government gives Christians a path to follow in footsteps of Messiah

Shalom,

Today, for a little something different, we are giving you this week’s Israel
News Update
as a series of briefs that include an item for those of you who
are interested in visiting Israel.

“In righteousness you will be established: Tyranny will be far from you; you
will have nothing to fear.  Terror will be far removed; it will not come near
you.  If anyone does attack you, it will not be my doing; whoever attacks you
will surrender to you.”  (Isaiah 54:14-15)

Iran missile testing

Explosion at Missile Base a Major Setback for Iran

Iran’s long-range ballistic missile program suffered a serious setback last
week when a large explosion and fire almost completely destroyed the
Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) missile base at Bid Ganeh
outside Tehran.

Thirty-six IRGC members were killed in the incident, including Major
General Hassan Moqaddam, a key figure in Iran’s ballistic missile program.

Officials and analysts from Israel, the US and several other Western countries
who examined satellite photos of the site declared that most of the buildings
on the base, including underground bunkers, had been either destroyed
outright or rendered useless.

Despite the obvious evidence provided by the photos (published online for
the whole world to see), Iranian armed forces chief of staff General Hassan
Firouzabadi told reporters in Iran that the damage had been minimal.

A carpet shop in the Grand Bazaar in Isfahan

Meanwhile, another mysterious explosion occurred recently in the city of
Isfahan, in western Iran
, with press reports saying it had damaged an
important nuclear facility
in the city.

Could it be that the prayers of Jews and Christians around the world
calling upon the Lord to intervene and prevent Iran from arming missiles with
nuclear warheads explain these “mysterious” explosions?

Once again, Iranian officials attempted to deny that any explosion had taken
place, but witnesses took dozens of pictures with their cell phones and
posted them on the Internet, where they were picked up by various media
outlets around the world.

Officials from the US and Israel have refused to rule out military action to
confront Tehran and have also broadly hinted in recent months of a covert
sabotage and subversion campaign to halt Iran’s quest for nuclear weapons.

At the same time, the US and EU have been active on the diplomatic and
economic fronts, imposing ever tightening sanctions with England closing
down the Iranian Embassy in U.K., and the British Embassy in Tehran.

The Sea of Galilee in Capernaum

“Gospel Trail” Opens in the Galilee

Recently, Israel’s Ministry of Tourism inaugurated the new Gospel Trail
pilgrimage route in the Galilee
at a cost of NIS 3 million (around 700,000 USD).

Minister of Tourism Stas Misezhnikov said it was an honor to invite the
entire Christian world to follow in the footsteps of Yeshua (Jesus).

The trail, which was created by the Ministry of Tourism and the Jewish
National Fund, runs for 63 kilometers (40 miles), starting at Mount Precipice
just outside Nazareth and continuing eastwards to Capernaum, taking in a
number of important Christian holy sites along the way.

“To really understand the Scriptures, you have to come here and see the
places mentioned in the Bible, and experience the land in which Jesus
walked,” said Juan Maria Solana, director of the Magdala center, who
cooperated with the Israeli Ministry of Tourism in creating the trail.

The route, which passes through holy sites such as Cana, the Mount of
Beatitudes, Magdala and Tabgha, can be traveled on foot, by bicycle or by car.

New Statistics: One on Five Israelis Going Hungry

Many children go to Israeli schools unnourished.

Israel’s National Insurance Institute released statistics last week
showing that one in five Israeli citizens can’t afford the basic food
they need to live a healthy lifestyle.

The statistics were compiled with the assistance of the Finance, Welfare and
Social Affairs ministries, local authorities and non-profit charities.

“There is a serious problem with nutritional insecurity whereby people are
forced to go without enough food, or without food completely; in other cases
families find food but it is not appropriate or healthy,” said Welfare Ministry
director-general, Nahum Itzkovitz.

“A close examination of food distribution by the third sector reveals that
while some families are receiving ample food, there are others who get no
help at all.  There is also a problem with the quality of the food.”

“If you pour yourself out for the hungry and satisfy the desire of the
afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the
noonday.”  (Isaiah 58:10)

Syrian Regime Increasingly Isolated

Iran which vows to send nuclear missiles to wipe out the Jewish people is
only one of many Arab enemies of the Holy Land, though it is not even on the
border of Israel.

Israel is surrounded on all three sides – in the North by Lebanon and Syria,
Jordon the west, and Egypt in the south.  At least there is peace on the east
with the beautiful Mediterranean Sea.

Israel’s most hostile neighbor which borders the Holy Land is Syria, and if
you live in the North of Israel in the Golan Heights, you feel the threat of
this Arab enemy.

Israel and her neighbors

Syria wants to control this part of Israel that is above the Sea of Galilee
where Yeshua (Jesus) ministered to the multitudes, walked on water, and
calmed the waves and wind during a storm.  (Mark 4:39)

If you are watching the news, Syria is known for its genocide and a civil war
that could erupt any day.

The UN now estimates that over 4,000 civilians have been killed in Syria’s
nine months of violent street protests.  Several thousand more have been
wounded, displaced, and arrested.

The regime of Syrian president Bashar Assad may soon fall, and although
Israeli officials have no love for Assad, they are torn by concerns that if he
is deposed he might be replaced by something even worse.

The Central Synagogue of Aleppo in Syria, also known as the Great
Synagogue of Aleppo
or Joab’s Synagogue, has been a Jewish place of
worship since the 5th century C.E.  This side view of a model of the
synagogue is an exhibit at the Diaspora Museum in Tel Aviv.
Interesting Facts About Syria

  • Syria’s capital Damascus once had a large Jewish population.  In fact,
many Jews in Israel are of Syrian descent.

  • And it was along the “Damascus” road from Israel to Syria on which
Rabbi Saul (the Apostle Paul) had his Damascus road experience
where God spoke to him, and asked him, “Why are you persecuting
    me,” speaking of Yeshua (Jesus).

  • The oldest version of the Hebrew Bible today, besides the Dead Sea
Scrolls, is the Aleppo Codex, which was a Torah Scroll kept in a
synagogue in Aleppo, Syria and smuggled out in 1947 (just before
Israel became a Nation in 1948), after Syrian Muslim Arabs rioted
and set the synagogue on fire.It was a miracle that the both of these most ancient versions of the
Hebrew Bible (Dead Sea Scrolls and the Aleppo Codex) made their
way back to Israel right before she became a nation, fulfilling prophecy!

Joshua 1:1 in the Aleppo Codex.

Iceland: the First Western Country to Recognize “Palestine” as State

Iceland’s parliament last week voted to recognize Palestinian as an
independent state, gaining the dubious distinction of being the first
Western country to do so.

“Iceland is the first Western European country to take this step,” Foreign
Minister Össur Skarphedinsson told Icelandic state broadcaster RUV.  “I
now have the formal authority to declare our recognition of Palestine.”

While the move might be disheartening for Israel and her supporters,
Iceland’s relative weakness and obscurity in international affairs perhaps
makes the move relatively insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

Nevertheless, it’s a disturbing foreshadowing of the nations of the world
coming against Israel in these end times.

“I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem to battle….”
(Zechariah 14:2)

Mount of Olives, Israel:  The Lord Himself will stand on the Mount of Olives
and it will split in two.

The stage seems to be being set for the fulfillment of prophecies in
Zechariah 10-14, which describe the nations coming against Israel before the
Messiah appears and stands triumphant on Mount the Olives.

Remember that the Mount of Olives is where Yeshua (Jesus) ascended and
where the angels told his disciples that he would return.

The Messiah will walk down the Mount of Olives, and enter via the
Golden Gate.  It is the only gate across from the Mount of Olives, and it
has been closed for hundreds of years.  All the people in Israel know that
according to Jewish tradition, the Messiah will enter through this gate.

And then the Jewish people will know their Messiah Yeshua!

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a
spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have
pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and
grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.”  (Zechariah 12: 10)
