My Decent – This Week’s Picture It & Write

My hand broke the surface. Cool air fed on my wet fingers, sending cold shivers down my hand. I retracted my hand. I peered through my mask at the underworld. The moving black shapes, the slimy creatures and the colorful speckles swayed in my vision to the beat of the ocean. I wondered what it would be like to never break the surface again. What would it be like to be one of these underworld creatures? I yearned to escape in this world. I hated my world of plastic people and robotic possessions. The ocean pulsed with life. I knew my oxygen tank was empty and I didn’t care. I swam deeper. I took off my mask and was engulfed by life.

And as the ocean life surrounded me, I began to feel my lungs straining to take a breath, but I didn’t care, for about a minute.  Then I began to think about my wife and children.  That slowed my decent quickly.  How selfish would that be of me to do that to them?

My lovely wife would be crushed.  I started to picture the scene of her learning about the “accidental drowning” of her beloved husband.

I imagined the police knocking on the door and Mary opening it with that furrow on her forehead like she gets when she is worried about something.  Over all the years that we have been married, the crease line across her brow has deepened with each new crisis that we have had to endure, and there have been a few.

God, I love her so much.  This would be hard for her to take, might even be impossible, could be the last straw.  I think my death just might be the death of her.  I know it would be a blow unlike anything she has sustained thus far, even worse than the loss of her parents a couple of years ago in a private charter plane crash.

That almost destroyed her.  They were on their way to see us when it happened.  It was Christmas Eve and snowing very heavily…

Falling

Ever dreamed that you’re falling
with no way of forestalling?

Heart beats faster and faster
and everything spells disaster

The seconds go by flashing
as to the ground you’re crashing

You know that you’ll die
as to heaven you cry

“Oh God, please save me!”
 in your fear so desperately

And just before the sound
of you hitting the ground

With a jarring kinda shake
you find yourself awake

But I have a question
and maybe a suggestion

Did you then again speak
 or at any time seek

After God’s help again
or just a nightmare pretend?

Handing It Off To My Dream Catchers

tumblr_lwd6r3AOI71qjrl6ho1_500

All through our life
the dream catchers come

With loving support are
these purveyors of wisdom

And although I know
my list may be long

To have left some out
would have been wrong

When in all truth
there would be more

But they have already
received this award before

So it is my friends
you shine like the sun

And now it’s your turn
to take it and run!

A New Irish Joke Via My Brother

“As good as this bar is,” said the Scotsman, “I still prefer the pubs back home. In Glasgow, there’s a wee place called McTavish’s; the landlord goes out of his way for the locals. When you buy four drinks, he’ll buy the fifth drink.”
-
“Well, Angus,” said the Englishman, “At my local in London, the Red Lion, the barman will buy you your third drink after you buy the first two.”
-
“Ahhh, dat’s nothin’,” said the Irishman, “back home in Cork at my favourite pub, the moment you set foot in the place, they’ll buy you a drink, then another, all the drinks you like. Then, when you’ve had enough drinks, they’ll take you upstairs and see dat you gets laid, all on the house!”
-
The Englishman and Scotsman were suspicious of the claims; but, the Irishman swore every word was true…then they asked:
“Did this actually happen to you?”
-
“Not meself, personally, no,” admitted the Irishman,
“but it did happen to me sister quite a few times.”

Ship of Dreams – Launch; Weekly Photo Challenge

photo “LAUNCH” by Frizztext, click on the image to enter the flickr photo collection …

Today I have launched
my ship of dreams

Getting a good start
or so it seems

As it sails on
this prayer I say

“Please Lord carry them
through all the way!”

Bare – Saturday’s Limerick

As the new year approaches, gals swear
to buy some sexy new underwear
so as to turn their guys on
all the way to hill and gone
who’d rather just see them bare!

This limerick comes from a visit I made to the following website:

http://www.madkane.com/humor_blog/2012/01/01/happy-new-year-edition-limerick-off-monday/

Where you are given the first line and asked to write your own limerick with it.  There were some really good ones on there.  Stop by and check it out sometime and maybe even contribute if you like :)
