Another Thought From Horatius Bonar

* I was going to save this for tomorrow but in light of some conversations I’ve been having today with some of you, I thought it appropriate to go ahead and post it today.

Dreams, Visions or Imagination?

I have a friend who is struggling with this issue right now.  Someone is telling her that they are seeing visions and another person is telling her that they are just dreaming these “visions”.  This is a hard issue to determine for many of us.

I thought I would do this post for her benefit but also for anyone else who might be in a similar position.

Many of my older followers already know that Mark and I both have had near-death experiences.  Many of you newer ones may not.  Many of you also know that in my late teens I was visited by 3 demons as well.

I know there are those who would swear that I dreamed it about the demons, but (as the Bible says) I KNOW THAT I KNOW this was a true occurence.

There are those out there who don’t believe N.D.E.’s either.  Some think it’s just the last sparks of the dying brain that make you imagine the Light and the tunnel, etc.  Or it’s the medication’s effects on the brain that makes you hallucinate.  I’ve never quite understood how they can think that explanation is plausible because millions upon millions of people have experienced a visit to heaven or hell before they were brought back from the grave and each accounting of what they saw is very similar to the other.  How can everybody imagine the same thing?

I know there are growing numbers of Muslims/Hindus/Buddhists/atheists that are converting to Christianity because they have experienced a visit from Jesus Himself in a dream/vision.

I believe in all these things!  I also believe that when people are growing closer to their time, they are more apt to have these visions/visits.  Especially the terminally ill.

My best friend Penny’s parents both died after bouts with cancer.  Her mother was first.  She told Penny that she was not afraid, that an angel stood outside the window every day watching over her.  When it was time, she went with a smile and repeating “Jesus, Jesus”.

When it was her dad’s turn, he told her that her mother came often to visit and comfort him.  By the time of the end, he was too weak to speak or even move his limbs but at the very end, he repeatedly raised his arms in the air like a child who was reaching out to be picked up in their parent’s arms.

When Mark’s 8-year-old step-daughter had a cancerous brain tumor and had gone home for her final days, she told Mark that an angel came to her room and talked with her several times a day to comfort her and tell her all about heaven.  He told her not to be afraid and that he would be there to take her when the time was right.  She told him not to worry ’cause she wasn’t scared at all!!

I could go on and on about this and some of the things that I know, but it’s up to you whether you want to believe them or not.  The trickster makes you want to doubt them; to give scientific explanations for them; to logically account for something that is supernatural and logic can’t explain.

But, as always, this is where faith and trust in God comes into play.  Either you are going to believe Him or not.

The only thing I want to say to you, my friend, is don’t allow someone else’s unbelief sway you from your acceptance of what they are telling you.  If you just blow it off as “dreams”, then you are the one who will be caught unprepared for their passing and not them!  For they will be going in peace and I believe that your mother did come and spend time with him yesterday, most definitely!!!  I think she may be back before it’s done too. My advice to you is it’s better to believe him and God than not!

My love and prayers are with you both!!

They Will Be Loved

* I meant to post this yesterday and forgot it.   With Mother’s Day upon us, and Father’s Day approaching, I began thinking about the couples who can’t have children.  I have a cousin who was adopted as a matter of fact.

With the unprecedented numbers of abortions happening in these “modern times”, it is very hard for these couples to adopt infant children.  My heart breaks for them.  Many of these couples have the means to support several children, if they could just find them.

What is also unfortunate is the growing number of older children who are being abandoned and put into the system because people don’t want to take on a child/adolescent who already has issues that need to be addressed.  This is a crying shame!!

Is this not a statement of the decline of our society in America?  I can’t help but think that the more “liberal” we become, the more we fall short of morality, compassion, and charity.  And the more we fall short, the more selfish and self-centered our society is.

Maybe it’s my age; being raised Catholic; or my Irish heritage (the Irish are known for their compassionate nature).  I don’t know which, nor do I really care, I just think this is the worst state I have ever seen this country in and it is sad!!

Love and hugs,

Free Write Friday; Time & Place Scenario – Dear God, What Now? – Part 2

Just as the waiter was setting her lager on the table, her cell phone began to ring.  Reggie thanked him and dug out the phone.  ”Unknown Number” it read.  Upon answering, she got the shock of her life!  A voice said, “Wonder what you’re supposed to do with that money, huh?”

“Oh my God, who is this?  How and what do you know about this wallet and money?!” Regina asked in total disbelief.

“Who this is isn’t the important part of this conversation that we are about to have!  You are just supposed to listen to what I tell you to do.  Were you not just asking God about His plans for you on this trip?!”

“How could you know that?  I’m NOT talking to God on a cell phone, this I know!”  Reggie was now sputtering her words.  The waiter arrived with her food and gave her an odd look that told her he had overheard what she had said.  With a weak smile, she thanked him.

The voice on the other end of the phone was chuckling at what she had said.  ”If God wanted to call you on your cell phone, do you think that He couldn’t do it?  What kind of faith is that?!  He uses all different means to talk to us, whatever He feels you will accept.  Why not a phone call?”

“Are you telling me this is God?” she was flabbergasted at what was said.

“NO!  I didn’t claim to be Him, I just asked a question.  Now, listen to what I’m about to tell you and don’t get bogged down with the details.  It is not for you to question or try to figure out in that analytical mind of yours, you are only to act upon it!  Have you not heard of the term ‘stepping out in faith’?”

“Yes!  Of course I have or I would not be on this train in the first place!!  Go on and tell me what I’m doing here.”  Reggie’s voice was a little tense now.  ”Really,” she thought silently, “what a stupid thing to ask me when I board a plane in America, fly to Italy, visit the Vatican, and then board a train all because I heard a voice tell me to!!”

“Alright then, here goes.  I’m on a journey of faith here too!  I was in prayer one day last week when I was told to fly to Germany and visit the concentration camps.  I wasn’t sure why I was supposed to do this but it was a very emotional and moving experience.  Then I was told to board the train that you are now on.  When I saw you embark, I was told that you were the next in line for this journey and my part was almost done.  I had been told to bring $5,000 in an old wallet and place it in your luggage compartment as soon as you were asleep.”

“Wow, this is really freaking me out!!  So you are American too?”

“Yes, I am.  But that immaterial, don’t get sidetracked!  Now you are supposed to take that money and get off at the next stop.  Check into a hostel and you will be given further directions from there.”

“By who?  The people at the hostel?  When?  When I arrive?”

“I don’t know any of that, I’m just telling you my part of this and that’s all I know!  I was told to go home and continue praying for the next step of my faith journey.” the voice was gentler now.  ”Good luck and God bless you!” and with that the line was dead…   to be continued
