Saturday’s Thought From Jill Briscoe

Tuesday’s Thought from Source Unknown

Life is a Battlefield

Life is a battlefield
that awaits us all

From the day we’re born
’til unto death we fall

Whatever is that lies
there in the between

May only day-to-day
by anyone be seen

Whether in a skirmish
or a full-out war

We are all fighting
to gain a little more

More money, more cars
more homes, more land

With wealth and prestige
comes the upper hand

Yes, life is a battlefield
that if we don’t win

‘Tis the time that may
our hell on earth begin

For the ultimate goal of
war is land and money

Fought over piles of dirt
and all the bees honey

 This is how our society
from sea to shining sea

Has always been taught
is the way to be

But I must truly say
I’ve thrown my greedy lots

Trying to bridge the gap
between the have’s and have-nots

When I found myself
worse off than before

For money’s not the thing
that someone should adore

The battles that we fight
one into another blur

Until our life is gone
and I think you may concur

If we put that effort
rather into family and friend

We’ll actually be the richest
of all in the end!

Measure Your Wealth

Measure your wealth not
on what it can buy
but rather you ought
a different ruler try

For what you have today
will another turn to dust
somewhere along the way
we need to conquer lust

 If you measure the things
that no money could buy
the joy that it brings
can almost make you cry

The friend that’s always there
through the good and bad
who has time to spare
when you are feeling sad

The spouse that loves you
who always takes your hand
and in everything you do
next to you will stand

The child that you adore
no money could ever replace
and you wish for nothing more
than a smile upon their face

If these are the things
which by wealth one measures
the song their heart sings
will be one of simple pleasures.

So Poor

Some people are so poor they only have money!

Ivor Powell

Some people are so poor
because of what they adore

And put that love into
everything they say and do

By desire of silver and gold
they grow calloused and cold

For they pursue after money
as their land of milk and honey

Blinded by greed for wealth
they only do fail themself

When it does last for eternity
to forfiet your soul to the enemy.

All That’s Not Eternal

All that is not eternal is eternally out of date.

C. S. Lewis

All that is not eternal
has not value or worth
In sands of time but a kernel
that we spend upon this earth

We’ve run after silver and gold
in pursuit of our ultimate dreams
but as in the days of old
wealth is not what it seems

For it lasts just a little while
then can easily be taken away
and it’s our soul that we defile
for pleasure that fades in a day

In this life we want everything
that our neighbor has and more
but when we die what can we bring
of those things that we once adore

For the earthly things quickly do go
from the in to the out of date
when eternity is but a stones throw
and today is what seals our fate

So if you desire eternal reward
then what you now must do
is spend your life on what’ll afford
the gold of heaven to you!

Riches

“There is nothing wrong with people possessing riches. The wrong comes when riches possess people.” – Billy Graham

RICHES

Nothing wrong with what you possess
Wealth and riches’re okay I guess

So long as your motives are pure
Because it’s greed that’s hard to cure

But you must tread with care
And not be caught as unaware

The place that people do go wrong
Is wanting what to others belong

And when riches are possessing you
It makes the devil most happy too

Then he will lead you astray
With a desire for what will decay

Because what wealth and riches are true
Are the ones waiting in heaven for you.
