No Joke, Another Toke

I was thinking today about how happy I am that I don’t do this anymore!  Then I started pondering addictions as a whole.

There are all sorts of  addicts; drugs, cigarettes, sex, alcohol, porn, adrenaline,  gambling, etc.  I believe that you can probably be addicted to anything  to some degree.  I figured if you become OCD about it, then you are addicted to it.  So I decided to get the proper definition of it:

ad·dic·tion   [uh-dik-shuhn]

noun:   the state of being enslaved to a habit or practice or to something that is psychologically or physically habit-forming, as narcotics, to such an extent that its cessation causes severe trauma.

  1. OMGee I am addicted to face book and all the Blogs I am following! Why? Why did you have to tell me ? Now I am really a mess. LOL Hugzzz{{}} 🙂

  2. Hahahaa …. looks like you have created a huge fear in many according to their comments.
YES – there can be addictions to a lot of things. You point that out so well. The first step is recognizing it. I believe that is the hardest part. I have a friend who became addicted to me. YUP – our friendship. I was shocked when she said she always had to talk to me by phone or in person. I couldn’t understand why she became angry when I was unavailable. Then, she confessed. Can you believe that ??? She said she felt calm when she spoke to me. We are still friends but with guidelines. I felt bad for her at first then realized it had to be an addiction to a feeling she was receiving.
I liked this alot …. Blessings,
    Izzy

    1. Thanks for the comment, Izzy! Yes, recognition is the only way to recovery. As long as we are in denial, there is no moving forward. I’ve known people somewhat like that before too and I agree with you, the addiction is to the “feeling” they get with you. That is their “drug”; be it comfort, sympathy, peace, etc. Blessings and love, Terri
